Giacomo Puccini

The life he lived was met with hardships and disappointments. His training and interest in music transitioned from family occupation to a love and passion that would make a lasting impression on the world of Opera.
Famously known by his last name, Puccini was an Italian composer born on December 22, 1858 in Lucca, Tuscany. Growing up, Giacomo was not a stranger to music. For 124 years the Puccini family was established as the Maestro di cappella at the Cattedrale di San Martino in Lucca.

Early in his life he studied music and played to organ in small local churches. But it was in 1876 that he was convinced that his true calling was Opera. A decision that was set in motion upon seeing a performance of Aida, by Giuseppe Verdi.
